Overview

The SKD-2 is a flow switch for the discharge line of a small electric pump. It starts the pump when water begins to flow and stops it again when the flow stops, so you do not need a pressure tank to keep a tap running. Both ports are 1 inch BSP.

It runs on 220 V AC at 50 Hz and switches loads up to 10 A, which suits typical domestic and light farm pumps. The IP65 rating keeps out dust and splashes, the starting pressure is 1.5 bar and the maximum working pressure is 10 bar. Because it reacts to flow, it also helps protect the pump from running with no water.

Where it works

It works well on rainwater tank pumps in KZN and the Western Cape, borehole pumps on Limpopo smallholdings, and garden or small irrigation pumps around Gauteng. For bigger pumps up to 15 m3/h, see the 1-1/4 inch SKD-11, and keep a replacement SKD-2 board on the shelf as a spare.
