Orders are usually delivered within 1 to 2 business days of dispatch, from the platinum belt around Rustenburg to the cattle and maize farms further west. What North West buyers order most

North West has two strong economies. The first is mining. Platinum operations around Rustenburg, Brits and the Bojanala area need water managed underground and fuel managed on the surface, so contractors order drainage, sewage and submersible pumps for dewatering, diesel bowsers and spill containment.

The second is farming. Maize, sunflower and cattle farming dominate the western grasslands around Lichtenburg, Vryburg and Mahikeng, and the province is relatively dry, so most farms depend on groundwater. Borehole pumps and motors and solar pumps and inverters are staples, with water tanks and bins and troughs for livestock. Farm fuel is stored in diesel storage tanks.

Closer to Gauteng, the Hartbeespoort and Madibeng areas add lifestyle smallholdings and lodges, which buy booster pumps, tanks and septic tanks and treatment supplies. Dolomite geology in parts of the province means groundwater can be plentiful in some spots and absent a few hundred metres away, so a borehole siting survey is worth doing before you buy a large pump.

A selection tip for dry farmland: size the livestock water point to the herd on the hottest day, then add a reserve tank. A solar pump pushing into a tank at the trough is often cheaper to run than a diesel engine, and it works without anyone being on site.
