Overview

This MA analogue control box starts and protects a 0.55 kW, 220 V single-phase 4 inch borehole motor. Inside are the run capacitor, an on/off switch and thermal overload protection. It is the basic way to run a single-phase borehole pump: cheap, simple and easy to replace. The capacitor is sized for the motor, so the box has to match the motor’s kW rating. Kamano supplies it from Polokwane to all nine provinces.

Where it works

A 0.55 kW pump suits a modest borehole feeding a header tank or a small garden and stock supply. It is common on farms in Limpopo, North West and the Free State, and on rural homesteads where the supply is single-phase. The MA box will not stop the pump if the borehole runs dry, so on low-yield boreholes the 20Y intelligent controller is the safer choice, adding dry-run, voltage and overload protection and automatic restart. For three-phase pumps, use a Y1 or 30Y controller. Read the kW off the motor plate before you order.
