Overview

Siliphos is a glass-like water-treatment media that helps control scale and corrosion. This 1 kg bag fills refillable cartridges in filter housings, so the water passes over the crystals on its way to your pipes, geyser and pumps.

As water flows over the media, it slowly releases small amounts of phosphate and silicate. The polyphosphate keeps hardness minerals suspended so they are less likely to form hard deposits, and the silicate lays down a thin protective layer on metal surfaces. Siliphos works best as an ongoing protection that prevents new scale. It may gradually help with iron-oxide brown scale, but hard calcium scale is far harder to shift.

Where it works

Hard borehole water in the Free State, the Karoo and the Northern Cape leaves scale in geysers and irrigation lines. Siliphos slows that build-up and helps reduce brown water caused by corrosion. Check the media level during normal filter maintenance, and top up the cartridge when it runs low because the crystals dissolve gradually.
