This 20 inch carbon block cartridge fits compatible Big Blue housings and reduces chlorine, bad tastes, odours and colour in your water. It is the stage that makes tap water taste and smell better.

Activated carbon is full of tiny pores, which gives a huge surface area to trap certain substances as water flows through. It also helps with volatile organic compounds. Put a sediment filter ahead of it so the carbon can concentrate on chlorine, taste and odour. Carbon life depends on water quality and use, and 6 to 12 months is typical.

Where it works

Municipal water in Gauteng and the Western Cape often carries chlorine that you can taste, and rainwater can carry roof odours. A carbon stage cleans both up for drinking and cooking. Fit it after a sediment cartridge, and replace it when taste or odour returns. Borehole water may need further treatment, so test it first. Turn off the water and release the pressure before opening the housing, then flush the new carbon block for a few minutes to clear loose carbon fines. Keep a spare on the shelf so taste and odour never return between orders.
