Overview

This MA analogue control box is the standard starter for a 1.5 kW, 220 V single-phase 4 inch borehole motor. It combines the run capacitor, an on/off switch and thermal overload protection in a single box. There is no display and no dry-run cut-out, which is why it costs so little. The capacitor is sized for the motor, so the box has to match the motor’s kW rating. Kamano supplies it from Polokwane to all nine provinces.

Where it works

A 1.5 kW single-phase borehole pump lifts water from deeper boreholes and pushes it further, which is typical for irrigation of small plots, feedlots and farm dwellings in Limpopo, the Free State and the Northern Cape. Because this box cannot tell when a borehole is dry, a low-yield borehole is better served by the 20Y intelligent controller, which adds dry-run, voltage and overload protection with automatic restart. Three-phase pumps use a Y1 or 30Y controller. Read the kW and voltage off the motor plate first. Next to this one are the 1.1 kW box and the 2.2 kW box; the pump controllers range lists the rest.
