Description
Overview
This retaining block machine is a manual two-cavity mould that casts concrete wall retaining blocks measuring 470 × 180 × 300 mm. The blocks are used on embankments, attenuation ponds and cut slopes to hold back soil and control erosion.
Two blocks per drop doubles your pace against our single-cavity model, and because it is manual you can cast right at the slope without a power point. That saves hauling heavy blocks across a site.
Key features
- Two cavities per drop
- Block size 470 × 180 × 300 mm
- Manual, no motor
- Steel construction
- Cast on site to save transport
Where it works
Use this retaining block machine for road cuttings and embankments on municipal and provincial jobs, stormwater attenuation ponds in new developments in Gauteng, and erosion control on farm roads and dam walls in KZN and Mpumalanga. Landscapers also use it for terraced gardens. For curved walls, the round block version casts round blocks. See all brick making machines.
Retaining blocks are heavy, so cast them as close to the wall as you can and give them a full week of damp curing before moving them. Use a well-graded mix with stone for strength, keep the mould clean between casts, and set the first course on a compacted, level footing.

Questions about this product
What are these retaining blocks used for?
They build walls that hold soil on embankments, cut slopes and around attenuation ponds. Blocks are stacked in steps and the voids are backfilled, which drains water and stops erosion. Contractors and municipalities use them on road works and stormwater projects.
How much concrete does each block need?
Each 470 × 180 × 300 mm block is a fairly large unit, so plan your mixer capacity accordingly. A damp, well-graded mix with crusher dust and stone gives strong blocks. Ask the project engineer for the required strength before casting for a road or stormwater job.
How much is delivery to Richards Bay?
The machine ships at 54 kg, which puts it in the 30 to 60 kg band at R950 to Richards Bay or anywhere else in South Africa. Our own trucks run from Polokwane and normally arrive in 1 to 3 days. Orders of R20,000 or more including VAT are delivered free.
