Overview
This hollow block mould is a hand-operated steel mould that makes one hollow cement block per press. You fill it with a damp cement and sand mix, tamp and press it by hand, then lift the mould away and leave the block to cure.
It is the entry point to block making: no power, no moving parts and almost no setup. Output is limited by how fast you work, so it suits small jobs and people testing whether a block business can work. When you are ready for more, the manual 1-drop hollow block machine adds a lever press for firmer blocks.

Where it works
Use this hollow block mould for a rural home extension in Limpopo or the Eastern Cape, a chicken house or pump room on a farm, or a community project that wants to make blocks on the spot. Any flat, hard surface works. For a different shape, the hand-pressed V block mould sits at the same level, and the full range of brick making machines runs up to production machines.
Good results from a hand mould come down to three habits. Measure the cement by the bucket every batch so the units match, keep the mix damp rather than wet so nothing slumps when you lift, and wipe the cavities clean every few presses. Cure the units in shade under plastic for about a week. Those habits matter more than the steel itself.

Is a hand mould strong enough for house blocks?
Hand-pressed blocks can be good enough for many walls if the mix is right and you cure them properly, but they are not as dense as vibrated or lever-pressed blocks. For load-bearing walls, ask your builder or engineer what strength they need and test a few blocks before building.
How do I cure blocks from this mould?
Leave fresh blocks undisturbed in the shade for the first day, then keep them damp by spraying or covering with plastic for about a week. Do not stack them high until they are firm. Blocks that dry out in the sun too fast crack and crumble at the edges.
