Description
Overview
This flowmeter strainer element is the stainless mesh basket that sits inside the strainer housing of an M-series bulk meter. It traps rust flakes, weld slag, sand and tank sludge before they reach the rotors, which is where a bulk meter loses accuracy fastest. When the old basket is torn, crushed or blocked solid, a fresh one restores full flow.
The element is made in sizes for M-40 (1.5″), M-50 (2″), M-80 (3″) and M-100 (4″) meters. Tell us your meter model when you order so we send the correct size. If the housing itself is cracked, pair the job with a flange set for bulk flowmeters or rebuild the air eliminator with a float-stop assembly.
Key features
- SS304 stainless mesh that resists diesel and water
- Slides into the existing strainer housing, no pipe changes
- Rinse in clean diesel and refit at every service
- Housing rated to 10.5 bar like the meter
- Cheap insurance against a damaged measuring chamber
Where it works
Depots that take tanker loads from many suppliers see the most dirt, so they check the basket weekly. Mines in Limpopo and the Mpumalanga coal belt run bulk meters on dusty service bays where a clean strainer matters even more. Farms with old underground tanks should check it after every refill. A good habit: open the housing whenever flow drops for no clear reason. Browse matching spares in our bulk flowmeter range.
What’s in the box

Delivery and warranty
Kamano delivers with its own trucks from Polokwane to all nine provinces, normally within 1 to 3 days. The largest (M-100) element ships at 0.7 kg, which falls in the up-to-30 kg band at R550. Smaller sizes weigh less. Keep a spare flowmeter strainer element on the shelf so a blocked basket never stops fuelling. Orders of R20,000 or more (VAT incl.) travel free. Ask us for the warranty terms on this model.
Questions about this product
Which size do I need for my meter?
Match the element to the meter size: M-40 takes the 1.5" element, M-50 the 2", M-80 the 3" and M-100 the 4". The model is usually cast or stamped on the meter body. Send us a photo of the nameplate or housing if you are unsure and we will confirm before we dispatch.
How often should I clean the strainer?
Check it at least once a month, and weekly at busy depots or after any delivery from a tank you do not trust. A sudden drop in flow is the usual warning sign. Close the valves, open the housing, rinse the mesh in clean diesel, check for tears and refit.
Can I just run the meter without the strainer?
You can, but you should not. Grit that passes the strainer goes straight into the rotors or vanes and scores them, which costs accuracy and eventually a rebuild. A replacement element costs a fraction of a meter repair, so it pays to keep one fitted and a spare on the shelf.
What does delivery cost?
Even the largest element ships under 1 kg, so it falls in the up-to-30 kg band at R550 anywhere in South Africa. Add it to a bigger order and it rides along in the same band if the total stays under 30 kg. Orders from R20,000 including VAT are delivered free.
