Description
Overview
The NC255 UN is a brand-new UN approved IBC holding 1000 litres of chemical-grade liquid in an HDPE bottle with a steel cage, pallet base, top lid and bottom valve. The UN rating means the container type has passed the drop, stacking and pressure tests needed to carry classed dangerous goods on public roads, provided you pack and label it correctly.
Pay for the rating only if you need it. For tanks that never leave the yard, the non-UN NC255 is the same size for less money. For solvents and other liquids that build up static, look at the anti-static NCSX340.
Key features
- UN-approved container, new and unused
- 1000 L chemical-grade HDPE bottle
- Steel cage with pallet base and forklift entry on all sides
- Top filling lid and bottom discharge valve
- Marking plate on the cage for transport paperwork
Where it works
Chemical distributors on the Gauteng and Durban corridors ship acids, caustic cleaners and agrochemicals in a UN approved IBC because transporters and clients ask for it. Mines in Mpumalanga and the North West move reagents between plant and stores, and agricultural co-ops deliver crop chemicals to farms. Many transport companies will only load hazardous liquid in a rated container, so having one ready saves a wasted trip. Static storage options are listed with all our IBC tanks.

Questions about this product
What does UN approved mean on an IBC?
It means the container design passed the international tests for carrying dangerous goods, so it can be used to move classed hazardous liquids by road when filled, closed and labelled correctly. The marking on the unit shows which packing groups and densities it covers. Ask us for the marking details to check against your safety data sheet.
How long does the UN approval last?
UN rules for rigid plastic and composite IBCs generally limit their use for dangerous goods to a set period from the manufacture date, with periodic inspections along the way. Because this tank is new, you get the full period. Check the date stamped on the unit and plan inspections with your transporter.
Can I store petrol or solvents in it?
A standard UN approval does not make a plastic IBC suitable for low flash point fuels like petrol. Flammable liquids need an anti-static container, proper earthing and a check against the regulations for your site. Talk to us before ordering if you plan to store or move flammables.
How much is delivery to Durban?
This IBC ships at 58 kg, which puts it in the 30 to 60 kg delivery band at R950 to Durban or anywhere else in South Africa. Our own trucks leave from Polokwane and usually arrive in 1 to 3 days. Orders of R20,000 or more including VAT ship free.
