Overview

This is a bulk flowmeter gear plate, the drive assembly that sits between an M-series meter body and its register and passes the measuring element’s rotation up to the counter. When its gears wear or a tooth breaks, the register slips, stops or reads short, even though the meter body is fine.

Swapping the gear plate is a bench job that brings the register back to life for a fraction of the cost of a new head. It suits the M-40, M-50, M-80 and M-100 registers that we supply.

Where it works

Keep a bulk flowmeter gear plate on the shelf if you run M-series meters on tanker bays, mine diesel receipt points in Mpumalanga or fleet depots in Gauteng, where a stalled register means fuel moving without a record. Workshops that service meters for fuel distributors also stock it for quick turnarounds. After fitting, check the reading against a calibrator for bulk flowmeters. How do I know the gear plate is the problem on my meter?

If fuel is clearly flowing but the register stops, jumps or reads well short, and the meter body is not leaking or seized, the drive between them is the usual suspect. Take the register off and look for worn or missing teeth. Send us a photo and the meter model and we will confirm it before you order.

Will this plate fit a meter from another supplier?

It is made for the M-40, M-50, M-80 and M-100 registers we sell. Many bulk meters share similar layouts, but tooth count and mounting holes vary. Measure the old plate or send us a clear photo with the meter nameplate and we will check fitment before you order.

Do you deliver to Witbank, and what does it cost?

Yes. Our own trucks run from Polokwane to all nine provinces, normally in 1 to 3 days, and Witbank is on the route. The gear plate weighs about 0.7 kg packed, so on its own it falls in the up to 30 kg band (R550). Add enough to reach R20,000 including VAT and the whole order ships free.
