Description

Overview

The FG185 is an as-new food grade IBC tank holding 1000 litres. Its HDPE bottle is graded for contact with food and drink, held in a steel cage with a pallet base, a top screw lid and a bottom tap, so you can store, carry and dispense potable liquids in one unit.

Choose food grade when the contents end up in a mouth, human or animal. It costs a little more than the chemical versions, but you avoid the guesswork about previous contents. For brand-new bottles, step up to the new food-grade IBC. If the tank must travel with dangerous goods, compare the UN-approved chemical IBC.

Key features

  • Food-grade HDPE bottle, 1000 L capacity
  • Suited to drinking water, fruit juice, molasses, syrups and edible oils
  • Steel cage frame with forklift pockets
  • Top lid for filling and hand cleaning
  • Bottom valve for gravity filling of buckets and bottles

Where it works

Western Cape wine and fruit farms keep a food grade IBC tank in the cellar for grape juice and rinse water. Limpopo game lodges and Karoo farmhouses use them as backup drinking water during municipal outages, and small bakeries and sauce makers store syrups and oil in them. Dairy farmers also use them to carry clean water to calf pens. Compare all grades in our IBC tanks section.

Questions about this product

Is this IBC safe for drinking water?

Yes, it is sold as food grade, which means the bottle is suited to potable water and food liquids. Rinse it before the first fill, keep the lid closed and store it out of direct sunlight to slow algae growth. If you need paperwork on its previous contents, ask us before you order.

Can I use it as a rainwater tank?

Yes. Many households connect a 1000 L IBC to a gutter downpipe through a leaf filter and use the bottom valve to fill buckets or a garden hose. Shade the tank or cover it with a black bag or shade net, because sunlight through the white bottle lets algae grow.

What is the difference between food grade and chemical grade?

A food-grade IBC is sold for contact with drinking water and food products, while a chemical-grade one is meant for fertiliser, detergents and industrial liquids. The tank size and cage are the same. Never move a chemical-grade bottle into food or drinking water service, even after a thorough wash.

How much is delivery to Cape Town?

Delivery is charged by order weight, not distance. This tank ships at 58 kg, so it falls in the 30 to 60 kg band at R950 to Cape Town or anywhere else in South Africa. Our trucks usually arrive in 1 to 3 days, and orders of R20,000 or more including VAT ship free.
