Overview

This 1 inch hose breakaway is a single-use safety valve that fits between a dispenser hose and the pump or nozzle. If a driver pulls away with the nozzle still in the tank, it parts at no more than 300 lb (about 136 kg) of pull, and valves inside both halves snap shut. Fuel stays in the hose and the dispenser is not pulled over.

This version has a protective cover over the body to keep out dust and knocks. The identical body is sold as the 1″ breakaway without cover. If you want a unit you can reconnect after a pull-off instead of replacing, see the re-usable ¾” breakaway.

Where it works

Fit a 1 inch hose breakaway on truck-stop diesel dispensers, fleet depots in Gauteng and Durban, and farm pumps where tractors and bakkies fill up in a hurry. It is cheap insurance against the damage and spill of a drive-off, which on a high-flow diesel pump can be serious. Since it is single-use, keep a spare in the store so the pump is back in service quickly.
