Overview

This 1000 L underground water tank is a compact buried tank, with a 1240 mm diameter and only 1100 mm height, so the hole stays shallow. It is moulded from thick-walled LLDPE that withstands soil pressure, keeps roots and burrowing animals out, and does not biodegrade in the ground. Where it works

It suits townhouse gardens, lodges and smallholdings in Limpopo and Gauteng where there is no room for a tank above ground, and rainwater systems that run under lawns or paving. For a little more volume, look at the 1750 L underground tank or the 2500 L underground tank.

Plan the site before you dig. Have a qualified builder or plumber install it, and test the ground for groundwater or clay, which cause installation problems. Fit a breather so the tank cannot collapse when pumped out. Keep vehicles and heavy loads off the ground above it. It is not a septic tank.

At 40 kg shipping weight it falls in the 30 to 60 kg band (R950), and orders of R20,000 or more (VAT incl.) ship free. Delivery is to the nearest accessible point, so arrange the lift into the excavation. Tank warranty: 1 to 2 years, depending on the model.
