Overview

The OGM-40 is a 1.5 inch diesel flowmeter with oval gears and an electronic LCD register, measuring 25 to 250 litres per minute. That higher range suits bigger transfer pumps and bulk tank offloads, where a 1″ meter would choke the flow. The display shows a resettable batch and a lifetime total for stock control.

It forms part of our fuel dispensing equipment range. Pair it with the OGM-50 pulser flowmeter or the OGM-50 electronic flowmeter for a complete setup.

Where it works

Mines in Mpumalanga and Limpopo fit a 1.5 inch diesel flowmeter on bulk tanks that fuel haul trucks and loaders. Large grain farms in the Free State use it on high-flow pumps for harvest time, and transport depots fit it on bulk transfer lines between storage tanks.

Fitting tip: always put a strainer before an oval-gear meter, since the gears run on tight clearances and grit is the main cause of jams. Mount the meter so the display faces the operator, follow the flow arrow cast in the body, and run a known volume through it after installation. Change the register batteries before a busy season so the totals are never lost.

Oval-gear meters measure by displacement: every turn of the gears passes a fixed volume, so the reading holds steady whether the fluid is thin diesel or heavier oil, and the flow pattern in the pipe matters far less than it does with a turbine meter.

Questions about this product

Do I need a 1.5" meter or will 1" do?

If your pump delivers more than about 100 litres per minute, or your lines are 1.5", go with the OGM-40. A 1" meter on a big pump creates back-pressure, slows fills and wears faster. For bakkie pumps running 40 to 70 L/min, the 1" OGM-25 is the better fit.

Will it work on petrol?

No. This aluminium electronic meter is for diesel, paraffin and light oils. Petrol needs meters and electronics rated for low flash-point fuels. Ask us for a petrol-rated option if you run a petrol tank on site. If you are unsure what a fluid will do to the meter, send us the product name and we will check before you order.

How do I calibrate it?

Run a known volume, ideally 50 litres or more, into a calibrated measure, then compare with the reading. The register has a calibration mode to enter a correction factor. Do this once after installation and again if you change fluid or the meter has been serviced.
