Overview

The micro pulse flow sensor measures the slowest flows in this range, 2 to 90 litres per hour, and sends 862 pulses per litre to a controller or logger. That high pulse count gives fine resolution when only a few millilitres move each second. It has a G1/4″ connection, an aluminium body, runs on 5-24V DC and handles working pressure up to 16 bar, so it sits happily on the pressure side of a small dosing pump.

It forms part of our fuel and metering equipment range. Pair it with the 30-3000 L/h micro flowmeter or the 0.2-10 L/min micro flowmeter for a complete setup.

Where it works

Fleet engineers use a micro pulse flow sensor to log fuel burn on small engines, pumps and gensets at remote sites in Limpopo and the Northern Cape. Laboratories and engineering shops fit it to test rigs. On mines and municipal plants it measures reagent and chemical dosing from small metering pumps, where the controller must count every few millilitres.

Fitting tip: install the meter with a strainer upstream and a straight run of pipe either side, then route the signal cable away from pump motors and drive cables to avoid false counts. Use screened cable on long runs back to the panel, and check the pulse factor against a measured volume before the controller starts dosing by it.

Questions about this product

Can I use it to measure a generator's fuel use?

Yes, on small engines it works well. Fit it in the supply line and connect it to a logger or counter set at 862 pulses per litre. Remember that many diesel engines return fuel to the tank, so you may need a second sensor on the return line and subtract the two readings to get true burn.

What happens above 90 L/h?

Above about 90 litres per hour the sensor runs past its rated range, accuracy drops and the rotor wears faster. If your flow is higher, step up to our 0.2-10 L/min pulse sensor or the 30-3000 L/h micro flowmeter. Give us your pump flow rate and we will pick the right size.

Will it take the pressure from a dosing pump?

Yes. It is rated for 0 to 16 bar working pressure, with a maximum under 20 bar, which covers most small diaphragm and plunger dosing pumps. Fit it after the pump with a strainer upstream, because fine particles are the main thing that stops a small rotor sensor.
