Overview

This lockable dust cap closes the 4-inch API adaptor on a tanker or fuel tank outlet, keeping dirt out and, with a padlock, keeping thieves from drawing fuel from the outlet. It is cast aluminium, rated to 0.6 MPa, and weighs 2.8 kg. This is the padlock version; the self-locking cap does the locking itself without a padlock.

Where it works

Tankers and bulk tanks sit unattended on farms, mine yards and roadside depots, and open API outlets collect dust, insects and water. A lockable cap solves both contamination and diesel theft, which is a real concern in rural Limpopo and on mine perimeters in Mpumalanga. Fit it to every API adaptor you do not use daily. Fitting is simple. Clean the adaptor face, push the cap on and run the padlock through the lock point. Keep the cap with the tanker on its lanyard so it does not go missing between loads, and replace it if the sealing face is cracked or dented, since a damaged cap lets water in. On a site with several tankers, buy one cap per outlet and key the padlocks alike, so the yard supervisor carries a single key instead of a bunch.
