Overview

An open atmospheric vent lets a storage tank breathe: air goes out as the tank fills and comes in as fuel is drawn off, so the tank is neither stressed nor starved. This one has a 2 inch BSPT female connection and an aluminium body, with brass set screws and a stainless 10-mesh screen across the opening to keep insects and debris out. It is open to the atmosphere, with no pressure or vacuum valve, which makes it the simpler and cheaper option. If your site needs a set pressure and vacuum relief, use the pressure vacuum version instead.

As fuel goes in and out, air must move with it. A vent lets air escape when the tank fills and enter when fuel is drawn off, so the tank is not pressurised or sucked in. Without one, a fast draw-off can distort the tank and slow the pump.

What is the difference between this and a pressure vacuum vent?

This is an open atmospheric vent: it is always open, with a stainless screen to keep debris out. A pressure vacuum vent stays closed until pressure or vacuum reaches a set value, then opens. Choose the vent that suits your tank and site rules, and ask us if you are not sure which applies.
