Overview
The TGP hybrid solar pump inverter drives 4 inch brushless DC borehole motors from 0.75 kW to 2.2 kW straight from solar panels, and takes AC power from the mains or a generator when the sun is not enough. That keeps water flowing on cloudy days and early in the morning.
It is the inverter used in our 4SD TGP hybrid solar borehole kits, and you can buy it on its own to replace or upgrade a controller. The maximum PV open-circuit voltage is 450 V, and it protects the pump against under-voltage, over-voltage, overload and dry running, so the motor is looked after when conditions are not ideal.

Where it works
Use it on stock-water and irrigation boreholes in Limpopo, the Northern Cape and the Free State, at game lodges, and on village water schemes where the grid is unreliable or absent. The AC input means load-shedding or a cloudy week does not leave the trough dry. Add the solar regulator for battery systems, or fit the well probe when you use a 3HR or 3HRI controller instead. How many solar panels do I need for a 1.5 kW borehole motor?
With 550 W panels the manufacturer specifies 6 panels for a 1.5 kW motor running at 200 V. The other sizes are 3 panels for 0.75 kW, 4 for 1.1 kW and 9 for 2.2 kW. Keep the open-circuit voltage of the string under 450 V, and ask us if you want the array checked.
Will it run when it is cloudy or load-shedding?
Yes. It runs from the panels when there is enough sun and takes AC power from the mains or a generator when there is not. That means you are not left without water on a cloudy day, and a generator can back it up when the grid is down.
