Description
Overview
The 400W 3LARS (model 3LARS1.5/85-48/400) is a 48 V DC solar borehole pump that delivers a steady flow and pressure up to 85 m head.
Its stator and rotor work like a progressive cavity pump, so you get a constant flow and pressure, and the pump is easy to install and maintain. It goes into boreholes, wells, rivers, dams and tanks with an internal diameter of 80 mm or more, down to a maximum submersion depth of 50 m, and suits non-corrosive water with sand below 1 percent by volume, particles under 0.5 mm, up to 40 °C and pH 6.5 to 8.5. The soft-start control panel protects against under-voltage, over-voltage, over-pumping and overloading, and restarts the pump automatically after a waterless stop.
Key features
- Stainless steel casing, pump body, shaft, coupling and submersible motor
- 100% copper windings, graphite bearings and a wear-resistant rubber stator
- Brushless DC motor on 48 V DC
- Soft-start electrical control panel with waterless automatic recovery
- Maximum submersion depth of 50 m
- Duty points: 21.67 L/min at 10 m, 15.67 L/min at 30 m, 10.33 L/min at 50 m, 3.17 L/min at 80 m
- Motor cable 3 core 2.5 mm², with panels to inverter cable kept under 3 m
Where it works
This pump suits vineyard and orchard water points in the Western Cape, stock troughs, garden and tank filling, and remote homesteads where load-shedding or distance from the grid rules out a mains pump. Size it on your water level, the depth to the water rather than the borehole depth, and see the duty points to check the flow you get at that head.

Questions about this product
How many solar panels do I need for the 3LARS 400W?
The 400 W model needs two 250 W panels (500 W total) or two 330 W panels (660 W total). The array is larger than the pump rating on purpose, to cover cloudy days, cable and controller losses and imperfect sun angles. Panel brand and wattage can differ as long as the total adds up, and we will confirm the setup for your site.
How is the 3LARS 400W different from a normal solar pump?
It uses a stator and rotor and works like a progressive cavity pump, which gives a constant flow and pressure. It suits modest flows at real head, such as stock troughs and tank filling, rather than large volumes. Maximum submersion depth is 50 m, and it fits boreholes of 80 mm internal diameter and up.
How far can the panels be from the controller?
Keep the cable between the solar panels and the inverter to 3 m or less when you use 2.5 mm² cable, as the manufacturer data specifies. The cable between inverter and motor is 3 core 2.5 mm². Longer runs need a heavier cable, so ask us for advice on your layout before you install.
Do you deliver to Polokwane?
Yes. Kamano delivers with its own trucks from Polokwane to all nine provinces, usually in 1 to 3 days, including Polokwane. This item ships at about 10 kg, so delivery falls in the up to 30 kg (R550) band. Orders of R20,000 or more (VAT incl.) ship free. Tell us your site address and we confirm the delivery fee and timing before you pay.
