Overview

The FM600 is a 1″ oval gear flowmeter with a digital register, built to measure diesel and oils more accurately than a turbine meter. Two meshing oval gears trap a fixed volume of liquid on each turn, so the reading depends on displacement rather than speed, and it holds at about ±0.5% across its 10-100 L/min range.

That displacement principle is why it copes with engine and gear oils up to 1000 cP, where a turbine would under-read. The LCD shows the batch you are dispensing and a cumulative total for stock checks.

Questions about this product

Will this oval gear meter read engine oil properly?

Yes. Oval gear meters measure by trapping a fixed volume per turn, so thicker oils read correctly where a turbine would not. The FM600 is rated for oils up to 1000 cP, which covers most engine, gear and hydraulic oils at normal workshop temperatures. Very cold, heavy gear oil flows slowly, so expect a lower flow rate on winter mornings.

What is the difference between the FM600 and a turbine meter like the FM24?

The FM600 counts fixed volumes with oval gears, giving about ±0.5% and good results on oil. A turbine meter counts rotor speed, is lighter and cheaper, and reads about ±1% on thin fuels like diesel only. Pick the FM600 for oil, billing or tighter stock control, and the turbine for basic diesel tracking.
