Description
Overview
This 4 inch fuel filter is an inline basket strainer for bulk transfer lines moving 600 to 1500 L/min. Fuel passes through a 60 or 80 mesh basket inside a die-cast aluminium body, which catches scale, weld spatter, sand and rags before they reach a tanker pump or bulk meter. Undo the lid, lift out the basket, rinse it and refit.
Put it on the suction side of a PTO or vane pump on a road tanker, or ahead of a large meter at a depot. For smaller 1″ pump lines that need water removal as well, the 150 L/min water captor filter is the better choice, and for small bowsers see the GL3 fuel filter.

Where it works
Road tankers delivering to mines in the Northern Cape and Limpopo, fuel depots in Gauteng, and large farm storage installations all need a 4 inch fuel filter on the main line. One handful of debris in a positive-displacement meter can cost more than the strainer itself. Mpumalanga coal contractors refuelling haul trucks from bulk tanks fit one on every offloading point. Fit isolation valves on both sides so the basket can be cleaned without draining the whole line. See the rest of our fuel filters.

Questions about this product
Does this filter take water out of diesel?
No. It is a mesh basket strainer that removes solid debris only. For water, fit a water-absorbing cartridge filter downstream, or drain the storage tank sump regularly. On high-flow 4" lines the usual approach is a strainer on the line and water control at the tank.
Can I use it on the suction side of a tanker pump?
Yes, that is a common position. It protects the pump from stones and scale in the compartment. Keep the basket clean and check it after every load, because a blocked strainer on the suction side starves the pump and can cause cavitation and lost flow.
Which mesh should I choose?
Use 60 mesh where fuel is dirtier and you want less restriction, such as tanker suction lines. Choose 80 mesh where you want finer protection ahead of a bulk meter. If in doubt, tell us your pump and meter and we will recommend one.
