2.2 kW 380 V Variable Speed Drive, 5 A, Three-Phase

Description

Overview

This is a 2.2 kW (3 HP) variable speed drive for three-phase pump motors on a 380 V supply, rated at 5 A. It changes the speed of the motor by altering the frequency, which lets the pump settle at the duty point the application needs instead of running flat out all day. It is aimed at small borehole, booster and irrigation pumps.

The benefits are practical. A soft start spares the pump and pipework, and slower running at part load cuts the power bill, which counts when Eskom tariffs keep climbing. It can also hold constant pressure on a small water system. For single-phase 220 V motors look at the 2.2 kW 220 V variable speed drive instead.

Key features

• Rated 2.2 kW (3 HP) at 5 A on a 380 V three-phase supply
• Controls pump speed through output frequency
• Soft start reduces shock on the motor, couplings and pipes
• Reduced speed at part load saves electricity
• Works for constant-pressure water systems
• Compact size suits a wall or control cabinet

Where it works

Small three-phase pumps feed stock water on farms across Limpopo and the Northern Cape, drive wash-down and process lines on workshops and packhouses, and keep pressure up in boosters at lodges and estates in KwaZulu-Natal. A drive this size is a sensible upgrade whenever a three-phase pump is started direct-on-line and cycles often. Larger motors need a larger drive, so see the 18.5 kW 380 V drive and the rest of our pump controllers and VSDs.
