This 1.5 inch double poppet shear valve is a cast iron impact valve for the outlet of a fuel tank or bowser, built so the poppets close if the valve is sheared, keeping product in the tank.

The body is cast iron with Buna-N seals and female 1.5 inch ports, model code SV001. It is the plain iron alternative to the ATEX marked aluminium shear valve we also list; this one carries no certification claim. The supplier gives no shear force or pressure rating for it, so ask us if your insurer needs figures.

What is the difference between this and the ATEX marked shear valve?

Both are 1.5 inch double poppet shear valves with female ports. This one has a cast iron body and Buna-N seals and carries no certification claim. The other has a cast aluminium body, a stainless steel shaft, a stated shear force of 600 to 880 N and ATEX marking per the supplier. Choose by your site rules.

What does a double poppet shear valve protect against?

It protects a tank outlet from being torn off if a vehicle drives away with the hose still connected. The valve is designed to shear at a set point, and the poppets then close so the product stays in the tank. It is a basic safeguard on bowsers, trailers and depot tanks.

Does it suit diesel and petrol?

The Buna-N seals are the usual choice for diesel and petrol. The supplier does not state a pressure rating, a shear force or a temperature range for this valve, so we do not quote one. If your application is anything other than fuel, send us the liquid and we will advise.
