Overview

The 12-tooth Barrett-type coupler is a tanker offloading connection that links a delivery hose to a bulk tank fitting. The tooth count is the thing to get right: a 12-tooth coupler only works with a fitting built for 12 teeth, so check your existing coupler before you order.

If your fitting has more teeth, the 18-tooth Barrett coupler is the next step up. Many sites also keep a portable 95 L fuel caddy for smaller top-ups.

Tooth count is the single detail that decides compatibility. Count the teeth on the coupler or tank fitting you are connecting to, and order the 12-tooth model only if the numbers agree. Offloading couplers are used under load and in dirty yards, so inspect the seals and teeth regularly and replace any part that is cracked or worn. How do I know if I need the 12 tooth or the 18 tooth coupler?

Count the teeth on the coupler or fitting you are connecting to. The tooth count must match, so a 12-tooth coupler works with a 12-tooth fitting and not an 18-tooth one. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your current coupler and we will confirm.

What is a Barrett coupler used for?

It is a tanker offloading coupler. It joins the delivery hose from a road tanker to the receiving tank connection on a farm, depot or mine so bulk fuel can be offloaded. It is not the same as a 4" API bottom-loading coupler, which has a different interface.
