Overview

When the water is very deep or the tank is a long way uphill, the 8VP 80-20 is the 8VP80 pump to look at. It is an 8 inch stainless steel multistage submersible borehole pump with a 75 kW drive and a shut-off head of 410 m. Nominal flow is about 80 m3/h with a maximum of 100 m3/h, and it still delivers 60 m3/h (1000 L/min) at 297 m. Typical duty is large irrigation schemes, municipal supply and mine dewatering from high-yield boreholes.

Head sits at 395 m at 20 m3/h, 349 m at 40.2 m3/h, 297 m at 60 m3/h, 241 m at 80.1 m3/h and 146 m at 100 m3/h.

Where it works

Expect to see this size on mine dewatering in Mpumalanga and Gauteng, on deep municipal wellfields, and on large irrigation schemes where the water level has dropped over the seasons. Sizing is simple: pumping water level plus lift to the tank plus about 10% for pipe friction equals total head, and the pump must beat that at your flow. Your borehole yield must support the flow too, so ask the driller for the test result. A 75 kW motor needs a soft starter, star-delta panel or VSD that your electrician sizes.
