Overview

This 30 kW (40 HP) variable speed drive runs very large three-phase pump motors on a 380 V supply, with a rated current of 58 A. It works by altering the frequency fed to the motor, so a big pump can follow the flow and pressure the application demands instead of running flat out. At 30 kW every percentage point of energy saved is serious money over a year.

Soft starting also spares the rising main, the couplings and the motor from the surge of a direct start, which matters on long deep-well columns and high-head pipelines.
