This 1500l honey sucker is a horizontal tank on a steel frame, fitted with a 6.5 HP petrol engine and a 3 inch trash pump. It empties conservancy tanks, septic tanks and pit toilets at up to about 50,000 L/h and is sized for a light truck or a flatbed trailer.

Full, it weighs well over a tonne and a half, so it is too heavy for a standard bakkie. If you need to stay on a bakkie, the 1000 L IBC honey sucker with diesel trash pump is a better fit. For bigger rounds, the 2000 L honey sucker skid unit carries 2000 L.

What vehicle do I need for a 1500 L unit?

Full, this unit weighs roughly 1,690 kg, so plan on a light truck or a flatbed trailer rated for that load. A standard one-tonne bakkie is not enough. Bolt or chain the steel frame to the deck so the tank cannot slide when you brake.

Is this a vacuum tanker?

No. It uses a 3 inch centrifugal trash pump driven by the engine on the unit, not a vacuum pump. The trash pump pulls waste up the suction hose and pushes it into the tank, then empties the load through the layflat hose. It handles sludge and small solids well, and there is no vacuum system to service.

How do I clean the pump after a job?

Pump a few hundred litres of clean water through the suction hose and pump straight after use, before sludge dries in the casing. Open the clean-out on the pump if it has one and check the impeller for rags. Rinse the filter, then store the hoses drained and out of the sun.
