Overview

This 2000l honey sucker is a horizontal tank on a steel frame with a 6.5 HP petrol engine and a 3 inch trash pump, made to bolt onto a truck deck. It empties conservancy tanks, septic tanks and pit toilets at up to about 50,000 L/h, and carries twice what our 1000 L units hold.

What size truck do I need?

Full, the unit weighs about 2,240 kg, so a truck with a payload of 3 tonnes or more gives a comfortable margin. Many contractors use a 4 tonne dropside. Bolt the frame through the deck or use rated chains, because a sloshing load shifts hard under braking.

Why a trash pump instead of a vacuum system?

A trash pump is simpler and cheaper to own. There is no vacuum pump, oil separator or pressure-rated tank to look after, and spares are easy to find. It moves about 50,000 L/h on clean water and keeps going on thick sludge, provided you keep suction lifts short and the filter clear.

What will block the pump?

Rags, nappies, plastic and sanitary products are the usual culprits. The suction filter catches most of them, so check and clear it often. Thick, settled sludge pumps better if you stir it or add a little water first. Never pump fuel, solvents or chemicals through this unit.
