A foot valve sits at the bottom of a suction hose and closes when the pump stops, so the liquid in the hose cannot drain back into the tank or dam. The pump then starts with a full line instead of air, which saves re-priming. Its strainer also blocks debris from entering the hose.

Can I use a brass foot valve for diesel or water?

Brass is widely used with both, but the supplier gives no fluid compatibility list, so we do not guess. Tell us the liquid and temperature, including any chemicals, and we will confirm the valve suits it before you order. We list the connection thread as on request for the same reason.

Where do I fit it, and how do I stop the strainer blocking?

Fit it on the very end of the suction hose, kept off the bottom of the tank or dam so it does not suck up sludge. Lift it and rinse the strainer screen when flow drops. Keep it submerged at all times, because the valve only holds prime while its seat is wet.
