Overview

This 500 L diesel transport tank carries and stores diesel and compatible chemicals in a low horizontal shape that sits stable on a bakkie bin, flatbed or trailer. It is rotationally moulded from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) in yellow, with ribs in the shell for strength and a UV-resistant finish for outdoor life. Empty, it weighs only 25 kg.

The tank is model H500M and comes with a 40 mm outlet fitting at the base, so you can connect a pump or a gravity line straight away. Half a cubic metre is enough for several days of tractor or generator refuelling, and it still handles easily when empty. A 500 L horizontal tank like this is the usual step up from a drum for any farm or small contractor.

Where it works

Limpopo and Mpumalanga farmers mount this tank on the back of a bakkie to refuel tractors and bakkies in the lands. Mines and civil contractors in Gauteng and the North West use it for plant and generators on remote stretches, and workshops use it to hold approved chemicals. Secure the tank when it is full, use it above ground only, and never put petrol in it, as petrol degrades polyethylene. Installation is not included.

Do I need baffles for a 500 L tank on a bakkie?

Baffle balls or a baffle tube are sold separately and reduce the surge of liquid when you brake or corner with a part-full tank. They are worth adding if you drive on rough farm roads with the tank on board. Ask us and we will advise what suits your load.

Can this tank hold petrol?

No. Petrol attacks polyethylene and can make the tank fail. Use it for diesel and for chemicals that are compatible with the tank material. Send us the chemical name before you order and we will help you check it.
