Overview

The 4SD6/15 hybrid AC/DC solar borehole pump kit is a complete 1.5 kW, 4 inch package that lifts water up to 98 m at up to 8.2 m³/h. It is made for boreholes, wells and reservoirs of 100 mm and larger, and Kamano delivers it to every province.

In the kit you get a stainless steel 4 inch wet end, a brushless DC motor with 100% copper windings and a TGP hybrid AC/DC inverter. The pump runs on solar power by day and draws mains or generator power automatically when the sun is not enough.

Sizing is simple. This kit is rated for water levels up to about 74 m and is designed to run on about 3,300 W of panels, which is 6 standard 550 W panels wired together at 450 V / 200 V. The array is bigger than the motor rating on purpose, to cover cloudy days, cable and controller losses and a poor sun angle.

How many solar panels do I need for the 4SD6/15 1.5 kW kit?

You need about 3,300 W of panels, which is 6 standard 550 W panels wired together at 450 V / 200 V. The array is deliberately larger than the 1.5 kW motor so the pump still performs on cloudy days and after cable and controller losses. If you use panels of a different wattage the count changes, so ask us to check your layout.

Will it keep pumping when the sun is weak?

Yes. The TGP hybrid inverter switches to mains or generator power automatically when solar is not enough, so the supply keeps going on cloudy days. You still get the daytime saving from the panels, and a storage tank gives you water for the rest of the day.

How deep can the water level be for the 4SD6/15?

The kit is rated for water levels up to about 74 m, with a maximum head of 98 m. Measure the depth to the water, not the total borehole depth, and leave margin for pipe friction and a falling water table. If your level is deeper than 74 m, ask us about a higher-head 4SD kit.
