Overview

This is a pack of five rolls of white PTFE thread seal tape, often called plumbers tape. You wind it onto male pipe threads before screwing the joint together, and it fills the gaps in the thread so the connection seals and is easier to undo later. Each roll is 12 mm wide, 0.1 mm thick and 12 metres long, so a single pack covers a lot of threaded joints.

The tape is described by the manufacturer as high-density and oxygen safe. It is designed for binding, sealing repairs and thread sealing on gas and water pipes, and the PTFE is flame resistant.

Where it works

Every plumber, irrigation fitter and pump installer needs a few rolls in the bakkie. Use it on threaded fittings at borehole headers, pump ports, tank outlets and valves, and on workshop and workshop-air lines in Gauteng factories and Limpopo packhouses. Wind it clockwise as you look at the thread end so it tightens as you screw on the fitting. It pairs with threaded valves such as the 15 mm compact ball valve and brass items like the spring loaded brass check valve. More threaded parts are in pipe fittings.

The supplier’s data describes two tape types: a gas type for gas and hot water pipes, not for drinking water, and a water type for hot and cold water pipes. Tell us which one you need for potable water before you buy and we will confirm the roll supplied.
