Overview

A first flush kit keeps the dirtiest water out of your rainwater tank. When rain starts, the first runoff carries dust, bird and animal droppings, insects and other debris from the roof, and this kit sends that flow into a separate chamber instead of the tank.

It installs on the downpipe between the gutter and the tank. Water fills the vertical 110 mm chamber, and a floating ball rises with the level until it seals in its seat. Once the chamber is full, the following cleaner water bypasses it through the T-piece and carries on to the tank. Use it with gutter mesh and a Gutter Buddy leaf catcher, which stop the larger material first. It is already included in the 2500 L tank and gutter kit combo. Browse rainwater harvesting for more.

Where it works

Fit it on any roof-fed tank where water quality matters for gardens, livestock troughs or wash-down: a farm shed in Limpopo, a homestead in Mpumalanga or a suburban roof in Gauteng after a long dry spell. Dust builds up on the roof between rains, so the first flush matters most after dry weeks. Empty the chamber after each rain so it is ready for the next.

Delivery and warranty

Kamano delivers with its own trucks from Polokwane to all nine provinces in 1 to 3 days, with regular runs to Polokwane, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Mbombela, Mahikeng and Richards Bay. Delivery is charged by total order weight: up to 30 kg R550, 30 to 60 kg R950, 60 to 100 kg R1,450, and over 100 kg on quotation. Orders of R20,000 or more (VAT incl.) are delivered free.
