Overview

The 4SD4/10 is a 1.1 kW solar borehole pump kit that lifts water up to 78 m at up to 6.2 m³/h, and keeps running on mains or generator power when the sun drops out. It pairs a stainless steel 4 inch submersible wet end with a brushless DC motor and a hybrid AC/DC inverter, so one controller handles both solar and backup supply.

The kit is built around a 2,200 W array: 4 standard 550 W panels wired together at 450V/150V. That is deliberately above the motor rating to cover cloud and losses. A different panel wattage changes the count, and our team can confirm the layout.

How many solar panels do I need to run the 4SD4/10 at 78 m head?

The kit is designed for 4 standard 550 W panels, a 2,200 W array wired together at 450V/150V. That is intentionally above the 1.1 kW motor rating to cover cloud, cable and controller losses. If you use panels of a different wattage the count changes, so tell us what you have and we will confirm the layout for your site.

What happens on a cloudy day or at night?

Because the inverter is hybrid, it draws AC power from the mains or a generator automatically when solar output drops, so water keeps flowing. Without a backup supply the pump slows and stops with the sun, so we still recommend a storage tank sized for a day or two of use on any solar borehole system.

Is this pump right for my borehole?

It fits 4 inch (100 mm) and larger boreholes. The kit is rated for a dynamic water level of about 59 m, with a maximum head of 78 m and up to 6.2 m³/h. If your water level is deeper or you need more flow, ask us about the other 4SD kits in the range, which run up to 240 m head.

Do you deliver the 4SD4/10 kit to Tzaneen?

Can it pump sandy or dirty water?

It is meant for non-corrosive water with sand content of no more than 1% by volume and a liquid temperature up to 40 °C. A heavily sandy borehole should be developed first, because abrasive water shortens the life of any submersible pump.
