Overview

This horizontal honey sucker trailer carries a single 2000 L horizontal tank with a 6.5 HP petrol engine and a 3 inch trash pump on a braked trailer chassis. It empties septic tanks, conservancy tanks and pit toilets at up to about 50,000 L/h, so one trip clears several household tanks.

What do I need to tow it?

Full, the trailer weighs roughly 2,606 kg, since effluent is about a kilogram per litre. Check that your bakkie or tractor is rated to tow that with a braked trailer, and that your licence covers the combination. Ask us to confirm the axle layout and rating for this chassis. Register and license the trailer before it goes on a public road.

How does it suck without a vacuum pump?

A 3 inch trash pump does the work. Once its casing is primed with water, the impeller creates enough suction to lift waste through the hose, and it is built to pass sludge and small solids that would choke an ordinary water pump. Reverse the hoses at the disposal point to empty the tank.

How do I clean the pump after a job?

Pump a few hundred litres of clean water through the suction hose and pump straight after use, before sludge dries in the casing. Open the clean-out on the pump if it has one and check the impeller for rags. Rinse the filter, then store the hoses drained and out of the sun.
