Description

Overview

This is a diesel-engine centrifugal water pump with 50 mm (2 inch) inlet and outlet, moving 500 L/min (30 000 L/h) at up to 25 m of head. It is a clean-water transfer pump, built to be carried to the water rather than wired to a plug point, which is why farmers and contractors keep one on the bakkie. The engine is rated 6.5 HP (about 4.8 kW) and starts on a recoil pull cord, so there is no battery to go flat. The head works out to about 2.5 bar. The pump is not rated for sludge, sand-laden water or chemicals.

Where it works

On a Limpopo or Free State farm this pump moves dam water to a tank or a centre-pivot feed line. Spray contractors in the Western Cape use it to fill rigs from a river or reservoir, and mine and municipal crews keep one as fire-water and emergency dewatering backup when the grid is down during load-shedding. It also fills tanks at remote sites with no mains supply. What can I use a diesel water pump for?

It handles clean-water jobs: irrigation, spraying, filling tanks, transferring water between dams and tanks, and fire-water duty. At 500 L/min and 25 m head it moves a lot of water quickly, but it is not meant for dirty, sandy or sludgy water, which wears the impeller.

Does it come with hoses and couplings?

Hoses, couplings and fuel are not part of the specification, so budget for them separately. The ports are 50 mm (2 inch). Tell us how far you are pumping and the height you are lifting, and we will recommend suitable suction and delivery hose and the right fittings to go with this pump.

What pressure does this pump actually give at the nozzle?
