Overview

This 18.5 kW (25 HP) variable speed drive runs a 380 V three-phase pump motor and changes its speed by altering the supply frequency. It carries a 40 A current rating, which puts it in the right class for large borehole, booster and irrigation motors. Instead of slamming the motor across the line, the drive brings it up to speed smoothly and then holds whatever speed the duty needs at that moment.

A pump only has to deliver the flow and pressure the job asks for at any given time. Running it slower when demand falls saves electricity and takes strain off the motor, couplings and pipework.
